Oil paint is used in a soft wash of desaturated colours: Black, cold greys, and pastel pink.
The blackened hands are the darkest element and seems to fade out toward the bottom of the canvas. The hands are raised upward and slowly opening as if they’re blooming. The hands have an air of broken desperation in the distortion of the fingers. The left arms’ pastel colours fade into the canvas. On the right arm, a single red line ends in a droplet of blood, jewel-like and contrasting.
Efflorescent Hands symbolize the effort it takes to live: having the body and spirit synchronous. The water stain seems to wash away the paint, as if it wants to blot it out of existence. On the opposite end life persists through the blood droplet as if in defiance.
The illusion of water stains run down one arm and bleeds into the background. The hands float on a lightly washed cool grey background.
